Retirement Security Program for General Agencies(RSP)

The Retirement Security Program  for General Agencies (RSP) is a retirement program providing lifetime income and account flexibility designed for those serve The United Methodist Church as general agency staff. The plan is designed to provide participants with one piece of their overall retirement portfolio. RSP replaced the Staff Retirement Benefits Program (SRBP), effective January 1, 2007.

RSP consists of both a defined benefit (DB) plan, which provides a monthly benefit at retirement based upon years of credited service, and a defined contribution (DC) plan, which provides a retirement account balance established and funded by plan sponsors.

Who Is Eligible?

Permanent employees (including clergy serving a general agency) who work 20 or more hours per week or receive disability benefits under a plan sponsored by their general agency are eligible. Employees working fewer than 20 hours a week are eligible to participate in the DC component only. Your plan sponsor will enroll you once you are eligible to participate.
